Reading made it back-to-back wins in League One as Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan netted a brace to end Steve Evans ten man Stevenage's winning run.

Prior to Saturday afternoon's loss in Berkshire, Evans' Boro posted three victories on the bounce since returning to the third tier, with two superb away wins on the road at Northampton and Cambridge, sandwiched between a comfortable victory over Shrewsbury.

Throw in a stirring triumph on penalties against Championship side Watford, it's fair to say the season had certainly started with a bang.

However, Stevenage's winning run came to an end, hingeing on a pivotal moment 22 minutes into the game when the visitors were reduced to 10 men.

With defender Nathan Thompson already on a booking, the referee was given no choice but to dismiss him after hauling down Harvey Knibbs.

Worse was to come for Boro when Ehibhatiomhan put Reading 1-0 ahead in the fourth minute of first half stoppage time after heading home with Charlie Savage's corner - prior to slotting home from close range to double the lead on 57 minutes.

Stevenage slip to a still hugely respectable fifth place, with Tuesday's vanquished opponent Cambridge topping the embryonic League One table.

Boro host Portsmouth next weekend in an eagerly-awaited clash.

With three wins oStevenage had made a flying start to the season under Steve Evans. Having been promoted from League Two last season, Boro started this campaign with three wins on the bounce.

Stevenage went down to 10 men after 22 minutes when Nathan Thompson received his second yellow for a cynical foul on Harvey Knibbs.

Ruben Selles' men went in front in added time of the first-half as Ehibhatiomhan netted his first league goal of the campaign before the forward tapped in from close range to double the lead.
