Manchester United sign Stevenage keeper - Premier League giants snap up 16-year-old Elyh Harrison

Stevenage Football Club have confirmed that a deal has been signed taking 16-year-old goalkeeper Elyh Harrison to Manchester United for an undisclosed fee that Nub News understands believed to be in the region of £100,000.

The Old Trafford outfit have confirmed their new intake of Academy players for their U17 Professional Development Phase ahead of the 2022-23 season - which includes Harrison.

A Manchester United statement said: "The [group including Harrison] will experience a range of coaching, playing and education opportunities as they continue to work towards becoming established professional footballers. We would like to wish them all the very best within their careers."

Boro's academy has earned a reputation for producing talented young players over the years, including developing George Boyd, Fejiri Okenabirhie and Ben Wilmot - with Harrison the latest off the production line.

Harrison appeared for Stevenage's U18s team last term while also showcasing his undoubted talent by linking up with Steve Evans first team for training at Bragbury End.

Chairman Phil Wallace added: "Our very best wishes go to Elyh, and we will follow his career with interest. This is the fourth young player in four years that has been signed from Stevenage's Academy to a Premier League club".

"We have negotiated all of these transfers outside of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) system and therefore delivers significant funding to the Club, alongside a continued financial interest in their success, justifying our huge investment in the Academy.

"We will continue to upgrade our excellent facilities and invest in the infrastructure that develops young players capable of playing at the highest level of football".

Stevenage start their 2022-23 League Two season with a tough trip to Tranmere with Evans revamped squad now including former Hitchin Town defender Kane Smith.
