Stevenage 1-0 Spurs U21: Boro beat young Lilywhites

Jordan Roberts' first-half goal seals top spot in Southern Group D of the Papa John's Trophy for Steve Evans side.

Table-topping Boro took a break from League Two action to qualify from a tough group in first place.

Ahead of this weekend's big clash between first and third in the division, when Stevenage host Northampton Town, boss Evans made eight changes from Saturday's hard-fought 1-1 draw at Gillingham.

Aaron Chapman, Max Clark, Jake Taylor, Luke Norris, Dean Campbell, Kane Smith, Arthur Read and Michael Bostwick all returned to the starting eleven.

The winner came on twenty minutes, with Danny Rose feeding Max Clark on the left flank who crossed for in-form Roberts to finish with aplomb.

Attendance: 1,449 including 140 away supporters.
