The chancellor of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, has once again opened the purse strings of the treasury's coffers in a bid to boost the country's hospitality industry - including Hitchin.
The Eat Out to Help Out Scheme starts on Monday, with diners able to claim 50 per cent off food and drinks at participating restaurants during the month of August

Pizza Express is planning to close at least 67 of its UK restaurants putting up to 1,100 jobs at risk as a result – which could include their Hitchin branch.
The company announced on Tuesday morning it is planning to enter a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) in the 'near future' in a bid to push down its rents – including their site on the corner of Hitchin Market Place and Sun Street.

A large number of restaurants in north Herts have signed up to the Eat Out to Help Out scheme launched by chancellor Rishi Sunak.
Intended to boost restaurants who are facing challenging times due to the coronavirus crisis, the initiative has seen a number of eateries in Hitchin join up – along with many others across our area, including the nearby town of Stevenage.

Hitchin's Siri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara has added its influential voice in support of a Sikh man who has spent more than 1,000 days in custody for terror crimes he says he did not commit.
Well-respected elders from the Sikh temple from Hitchin's Wilbury Way insist Jagtar Singh Johal – known as Jaggi – is completely innocent of all charges and have called on the Indian government to release the British-born Sikh.
