Stevenage FC: Three Things We Learned at Gillingham as Spurs U21 loom at Lamex
Stevenage are flying at the top of League Two under Steve Evans canny management.
Ahead of a crunch clash that pits first vs third on Saturday when the club host Northampton Town, Boro are gearing up a host Spurs U21s at Broadhall Way tonight, Tuesday (October 18) as they aim to continue to top their Papa John's group.
In the meantime, here's Nub News' Stevenage FC writer and fan Owen Roadbard with Three Things We Learned from Boro's 1-1 draw with Gillingham at the weekend.
1 - The squad is still not fully gelled
At points yesterday, the patterns of play didn't flow as smoothly as Evans would've liked. His squad still clearly has work to do before they're playing to their full potential. When that happens, it'll be a scary thought for the rest of the league.
2 - Jake Reeves makes things tick in the middle
An imperative ever turning cog in the Boro industrious midfield this season, but despite his indifferent form, still produces some exquisite performances.
Reeves is a key player in the squad, but has lost his consistent form of recent. I have no doubt he will find his rhythm soon and be bossing midfields again in no time.
3 - The squad is small, but every player is up for contention to play
The squad is competitive, as shown by the strength of yesterday's bench. Bringing quality players like Bostwick and Norris off the bench to make an impact will be key for Evans later in the season when tired legs starts to appear.
I think the defence would do with some reinforcements in January, as one injury could jeopardise the solidity of the back line.
