Unbeaten in second spot in League Two with four wins out of five under Steve Evans means it is a good time to be a Stevenage fan after the club's struggles of the last few years, writes Owen Rodbard, with picture by George Bigley.
If you throw in the fact that Evans' Boro beat high-flying Peterborough from League One 1-0 earlier this week to react the third round of the League Cup for the first time in the club's history when they will host Charlton at the Lamex - on the back of beating Championship Reading at their home ground in round one - then life really is good at the moment for long-suffering Stevenage supporters.
Boro travel to Salford today, Saturday (August 27) intent on extending their run and Nub News will be there.
In the meantime, here's loyal Stevenage fan and Nub News writer Owen Roadbard on three things he's learned from the season so far.
1) Boss Steve Evans isn't afraid to chop and change
Evans has shown that despite having a small squad, he has full trust in all his players. Squad rotation is key in such a long season, but no one has faltered when given the chance.
Luther, Taylor and new signing David Amoo were outstanding even against higher opposition. It really shows the togetherness that the squad has, and the goals that have been set for them.
Being unbeaten after seven games is unheard of for us, as well as reaching new heights such as the third round of the Carabao Cup for the first time. This is our best start to a season in just under 10 years, and it's all credit to Evans and his management team for turning around the fortunes of this club in just a few months.
2) Fitness and commitment trumps everything
Six late goals in seven games is an incredible stat, even this early into the season. The hard work and dedication that the players have put into training is clearly paying off. Also the standards that have been set upon them by Evans are much higher than we've previously seen over the last few seasons.
I noted after Tuesday night the willingness of the wingbacks to still run up and down the line even after the 80th minute. Luther put in his best performance in a Boro shirt. The stricter regime is clearly working for him.
Reeves also looks to be playing his best football for us, which is saying something after some of his displays last season.
3) Attendances could still be higher considering how the team is playing
Evans recently issued a rallying cry for supporters to forget about the Premier League and come and watch the m mighty Boro but I think the club majorly missed a trick on Tuesday.
The chance to progress to the third round for the first time in the clubs history and they're charging £20 for an adult? With the cost of living currently that's an expensive night for fans, in what was an extra game of revenue anyway for the club.
Surely the club wants bigger attendances to help push the team on? If they'd have reduced the prices I'm certain more fans would've attended. Let's hope they reduce them for the next round against Charlton where the fans support will really play a huge factor.
The cost of living crisis isn't going away anytime soon, so this is something the club will surely have to address as some stage.
