Street Food Monthly

Hitchin's acclaimed Street Food Monthly is set to return in May for the first time in 2024.

The popular town centre event makes a welcome comeback on Thursday (May 2) in Market Place - with Street Food Monthly set to take place on the first Thursday of every month until October.

As Hitchin Nub News has consistently covered over the years, the first Street Food Monthly of the year will see the return of Café 77Amani Kitchen and of course, the legendary Matt Bean's Cantina Carnitas to name but three hugely renowned local vendors - with plenty of succulent options for hungry punters.

Next week's event also intends to be a celebration of Victoria Kevans, the much-loved landlady of The Victoria pub who sadly passed away in January.

Vic played a vital role in starting Street Food Monthly eight years ago, along with Matt Bean and others.

The wide variety of worthwhile causes includes the National Trust, Mind, Mission Aviation Fellowship, British Heart Foundation, Street Pastors and the British Legion.

One of the more unusual is ZANE: Zimbabwe A National Trust Emergency. It's been chosen by Lilley stalwart Judith Smedley, whose daughter Fiona and family live in Bulawayo.

Taco Wars in Market Place

Hitchin Street Food Monthly and Cantina Fiesta proudly present Taco Wars 2024

After a five year break, a lot of scores to settle and an insatiable love of all things taco based - Taco Wars is back.

This year's jam takes place in Hitchin Market Place with a mammoth taco session, DJ's and entertainment.

This year eight Hertfordshire based street food traders battle it out for the Tacowars Cup with their own take on the Perfect Taco.

Organsies say: "Taco lovers can buy a TacoWars ticket for the day which secures a taco from each vendor, soft drink or beer upon registration plus a Cantina Fiesta goody bag for the princely sum of £24 - that's £3 per taco plus a free beverage!"

The eagerly-awaited mouth-watering event is set to take place on Saturday May 18 from 11-5pm in Hitchin market square.
