Three Reasons Why Steve Evans should ignore Hibernian interest and stay at the Lamex as Stevenage FC boss
Stevenage boss Steve Evans has done a remarkable job at Broadhall Way since arriving in the spring of 2022.
When the tough Scot arrived at the Lamex Boro looked certainties for the drop from League Two back into non-league football.
Yet, the charismatic Evans said from day one he would achieve things if he managed to keep Stevenage in the fourth tier.
Promise duly kept after guiding the former relegation candidates to safety with an impressive run of form at the end of the 2022-23, Evans was true to his word, giving Stevenage fans a season to remember last term.
For all their meagre resources - certainly compared to some of the bigger hitters in League Two last season - Evans secured runners-up spot for Stevenage in a hugely competitive division.
The excellent form has continued into this campaign, with Boro eclipsing the team that pipped Evans side to the title, Leyton Orient, by posting a resounding 3-0 victory in East London on Saturday.
The away victory comes on the back of superb form on the road, kicking of 2023-24 with a hard-fought 1-0 win at fellow promotion winners Northampton, 1-0 and 2-1 at Cambridge under the lights at the Abbey Stadium,
However, with fans savouring studying the league table - Boro sit third, level on points with leaders Exeter City, and second place Bolton, there is a blot on the horizon.
Namely, the fact Scottish Premiership side Hibernian require a new boss, following the sacking of Lee Johnson, following an underwhelming start to the season, which included thrashing at the hands of Aston Villa - the same club that Stevenage shocked the football world by beating in the FA Cup last season.
While the Edinburgh based outfit appear to have Nick Montgomerie in their sights at their No1 choice, the bookies still make Evans 7-1 to take over the Easter Road hotseat - causing great concern amid the Stevenage fanbase.
Here's Nub News Stevenage FC writer and fan Owen Rodbard on why Evans should refuse the lure of coaching in his homeland for the first time, and stay at Broadhall Way.
Three reasons why Evans should stay at Boro
1 - He's building a community
It's fair to say that the previous years before Evans had been pretty dire. Since his arrival, the town and community as a whole has come together.
On the pitch there is a heightened sense of togetherness, not just with the players, but with the fans in unison. Attendances are at a level we haven't seen since the Westley days, the town is supporting their local football club and Evans is slowly becoming a cult hero.
2 - He's found his home
Evans has been known to bounce around jobs previously (just ask Mansfield fans their opinion on him), but it seems that he's found his home at Boro.
Separate from his relationship with the fans, he's building an exceptional team here in Stevenage. The starting XI has largely remained the same from last season, with a few quality additions added. The team harmony is at an all time high and I can't see that changing anytime soon.
3 - He's being supported by the board
Evans exceptional work is being backed with some brilliant signings. Evans is trusted by Phil Wallace to spend wisely, with Harvey White the most recent (and commanding a serious fee for a 'small' club) and biggest Boro signing that I can remember.
The level of respect that he has gained from everyone at the club is something to be admired. That 'us against the world' mentality is what we thrive of, and Evans epitomises that with the way he's managed this club.
I personally hope Evans stays and keeps us dreaming. The ceiling for this football club under this man is unlimited and I'm sure every Boro fan would be distraught to see him leave.
