Hitchin Nub News: The success story continues through our dedicated political coverage with local slant
The Hitchin Nub News success story continues.
Our coverage of the dramatic events at No10 yesterday (Monday, June 6, 2022) saw us post one of our biggest ever days in terms of readership on our website.
Since launching our Hitchin site back in July 2020 we have grown beyond all expectation, posting just shy of 3,000 Facebook followers, and closing in on 1,500 Twitter followers, while homing in on 800 Instagram followers. We also have nearly 5,000 people specifically in Hitchin and North Herts who receive our free weekly Friday newsletter (sign up here). And of course the tens of thousands of people who read us on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
Quite simply if you want to know what is going on in Hitchin - without dreadful clickbait and completely unrelated stories that have absolutely nothing to do with our town - then you have to read Hitchin Nub News.
If you throw in our dedicated What's On section (why not add your event here) as well as our local business and jobs sections we truly offer an unmissable local service. With our revamped website - free of those annoying pop ups - offering clear coverage of stories that mean something to us and our town, our all round coverage of our town and surrounding areas is unrivalled.
Not least when we covered Monday's political news, as events unfolded throughout a busy day.
Here's how we did it:
1) As we awoke to find a leadership contest at No10 after a busy weekend covering the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in Hitchin - including live video of the celebrations from the Market Square which you can watch on our Hitchin Nub News Facebook page here - as well as Liam Gallagher at nearby Knebworth - we leapt into action with our political reporting

2) One of Hitchin Nub News strengths is that we have unrivalled local contacts, which also includes a hotline to our town's MP. However, despite repeated requests for clarification on who Bim Afolami would support in the leadership election we were still to receive an answer.
3) So, we decided to report how YOU - our loyal Nub News readers - were feeling about the matter instead
4) While we also try and focus on the positive here at Nub News, we also have a duty to report local crime. And with our finger on the pulse we covered an arrest in the Westmill area of our town after we witnessed the aftermath of an incident.

5) We also have excellent contacts with a number of sports clubs in our area (if you would like your club to be featured - whatever the sport - then please do get in touch) and were sad to report on the passing of a loyal Hitchin Town supporter

8) Despite repeated requests throughout the day there was still no response from Mr Afolami ahead of the crucial leadership vote. So we featured other local politicians views on the matter
9) Eventually the pressure to tell us his stance - from his constituents and our readers - told on Mr Afolami and he announced he would be voting for Boris Johnson

10) And finally, after a 14 hour day that felt about five minutes long - such was the adrenaline soaked drama reporting on it all - we cover the fact that Johnson lives to fight on, backed by our town's MP - for now...
